What's your sweet spot? It's a phrase we commonly use in the marketing world. What are they referring to you may ask? It is the place with the perfect blend of all the elements of the marketing plan. It's the moneymaker, the synergy, the golden ticket, the jackpot. The sweet spot is when you’ve found a combination of elements that make the marketing plan work like a well-oiled machine.
A person can find their sweet spot as well. There is no doubt that the most valuable people are those who are constantly developing and differentiating their skill sets. Regardless of what people say, there are strengths in each, which if identified and nurtured, can create a powerful soldier for the company.
The idea of playing up your strengths and doing what you love is one that has been promoted by many brilliant professionals around the world. A popular mention of this idea is within Tom Rath's book, StrengthsFinders 2.0. In this book, Rath quotes Benjamin Franklin, stating, "Hide not your talents. They for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade?" This is my point exactly. It’s your sweet spot. A sundial in the sunniest corner of the yard, a creative mind in an art department, a numbers brain in analytics, a big picture planner in project management.
To take this notion one step further, apply your strengths to a passion. What are you passionate about? Is it a cause, beautiful art, writing creative masterpieces, fulfilling clients' needs, or playing on the website that you wired out? This passion drives a person’s performance. It’s what makes us work late at night, come in early, or work on the weekend. It's doing a job that you look forward to every day.
